Why Not?
One of the many things
That often bothers me
Is people who tell you
What just cannot be
As if some preordinance
Pushed by practical gods
Put a lid on our goals
About bucking the odds
Why put up barricades
To making dreams real
A spark brought us fire
A need shaped the wheel
The skeptics who advise
Not to envision and try
Don’t see past the clouds
To the expanse of the sky
We marveled at the birds
Soaring above us in flight
Now we also have wings
Upon many shores we light
Electricity was harnessed
From the current of Niagara
The flaccid were boosted
By the magic flow of Viagra
Scientists split the atom
And with great aplomb
Brought us mass destruction
In one heck of a bomb
We gazed up at the moon
So far distant in space
And then paved the way
To take a walk on that place
We wage war on disease
A dreadful enemy for sure
Some are gone or controlled
By ideas leading to a cure
This world once immense
Has been shrinking small
As our digital advancement
Affords connection to all
So, next time you’re advised
That your dream has no shot
Instead of asking them why
Ask yourself how and why not
