Ding & Dong
When sad Ding ceased its ringing
Poor Dong lost its zeal for singing
Resulting in a solemn mournful knell
Dong wished Ding would not let go
But Dong just had no way to know
Was no chance left to ever ring the bell?
Silence swelled from wounds that linger
Each felt themselves a lowly ringer
Not good enough to freely chime and toll
Was there a short in their connection
An ill wind blown in their direction
A way to spark the flicker in each soul?
It’s bright Ding that Dong so misses
Each chance a troubled past dismisses
The belfry cast in shadows pale and grey
Why did it go so dreadfully wrong
For weary Ding and woeful Dong
Maybe Dang just kept getting in the way?
