A Conversation in Silence
I quipped, sardonically, at the reaper
The ghostly apparition was unmoved
He glared at me with cold, stony gaze
He said nothing, he was not amused
A glow emanated from his dark pupils
It drew me into the depth of his stare
As I slowly gained the stark recognition
That an ultimate lesson resided there
Life's but a brief flash of finite energy
Bound to a set of ancient eternal rules
Spirals sucked into a vacuum of dust
Atoms spun in the continuum of fools
Universal truths, all ballyhooed myth
The suppositions of speculative minds
Man is prone to formulate reasoning
Although the answers render him blind
The message is inherent in the silence
In darkness, quite oppressive, yet clear
There's no validity to any of the reasons
They’re just what we all choose to hear
